What is Social Circus?

Social circus is a form of circus that utilizes circus arts and performances to foster positive social outcomes, particularly for communities facing challenges such as poverty, marginalization, or social exclusion. By combining artistic expression with social engagement, social circus aims to promote personal growth and community development through the power of circus arts.

Nicole Thompson, a junior at Concordia College majoring in Behavioral Sciences and an aspiring counselor specializing in dependency counseling, brings over 10 years of experience as an aerialist and contortionist. She is calling on communities in the Austin area to participate in a scholarship and sliding-scale circus program. Nicole is collaborating with Eve Dinnan of Bat City Circus to offer a variety of classes, including mixed aerials, circus arts, acrobatics, and ground skills, designed for those who might face barriers to accessing these arts.

How Sliding Scale Classes Work

**Registration and class schedules to be determined and released to accepted parties based on interest. It will always be after school hours. **

Our Social Circus program is built on the belief that circus should be for everyone. That’s why we offer a sliding scale payment option for families. You can choose to pay anywhere from $2–$25 per class based on your household needs. There are no registration fees, and no child will be turned away for financial reasons. Here’s how it works: Enrollment is first come, first served. Parents will be asked to provide some basic documentation (such as proof of income or residency), Documentation helps us understand your situation but will never be used as a basis for denial. You choose the amount that feels right for your family. We’re here to support you — not gatekeep

Class Expectations for Students

To help create a safe, focused, and inclusive space, students are expected to:

  • Bring a filled water bottle to every class

  • Wear fitted clothing — no skirts, dresses, or jewelry

  • Keep hair tied back in a ponytail or bun

  • Be dropped off and picked up on time — no more than 10 minutes early or late

🚫 Please note: NmtFlex is not commercially licensed to transport students and cannot provide rides to or from class. Families must arrange appropriate transportation.
